Contest Alert!
When one of these falls from the sky and hits you on the head, it hurts. The acorns are huge this year. Walking the woods trails is treacherous, not only from above but from below. It's roller blades out of control. Or, maybe not.. hiking on golf balls. Slow down, watch out, and wear a hat.
Here's the question. How many of these acorns do you think are in a pound? I've weighed them out. Send me your guess in the comments. Next Wednesday, if I have an internet connection (I'm tearing the office apart this weekend) I'll let you know who guessed the number. The prize is a skein of Ball and Skein's Super Sock 416 in the Autumn colorway. I only dye it once a year. It's all about fall.

Ooooh, I’m really bad at these kinds of things! Ummm…14??? Ok, that’s my final answer, 14.
As a scientist, I ought to identify the species of oak those came from, got out and find specimens of that species, collect acorns, weigh several samples, and average the samples to come up with a good guess.
As a knitter, I’m going to say 34 acorns to a pound. And yes, my swatches are never very big either, how did you guess?
I think 12 acorns per pound. Of course, down here the acorns of the live oaks look more like Greek olives…what do I know? 🙂
Dang, I was gonna say 14… so I’ll split the difference here and call out 13! I’d love to get my hands on some of those. They’re gorgeous.
Hmmm… 31 acorns is my guess. Are you going to make any flour from them?

My guess is 142. I always loved the crunchy sound underfoot in the fall when the acorns are down. Last night’s rain sure brought down a bit load of them in my area.

I’m guessing 28. If they are as big as they look to me. And, they are huge! Ours are tee-tiny.
I think 18. Nearly an ounce each.
I think acorns are pretty light… maybe 3 grams a piece? So my guess is 151 acorns = 1 pound!
It definitely is “rollerblades out of control” here too! Since yours look a bit on the plump side I’ll say 90 acorns in your pound.

I know I will be way off, but I think 52. I love to watch for acorns when I walk the dog. It’s fun to see where they show up when the critters cart them around.
I’m guessing 135. I need to head to the park with lots of oak trees to see some acorns in person.

Well, gee, there’s a question I didn’t think I would ever be asked. 🙂 The numbers seem to be running all over the place and if they’re as big as chestnuts…hmmmm. I’ll go with the unthinkable 25. Them would be some big acorns. 🙂

I vote 33 per pound. I love palindromes.
I’d say 10, as each acorn can well weigh nearly as much as a 50g skein of yarn, they look so big. If I am right, they must hurt a lot when they hit you ! Cheers.
