coopworth fiber challenge

P1050605

Saturday I received a little bag of this.  One of our guild members donated Coopworth fleece from her flock for a fiber challenge.  It was well skirted and ready to wash.  Each of us was given 3 oz.

  • wash
  • card
  • spin
  • knit

Sunday was cool and windy.  Perfect for washing my little bag of wool.  By Monday morning it was dry enough to run through the carder.  I'll bag the processed fiber until I finish my Rhinebeck sweater.  Any time spent at the wheel should be to fill the last two bobbins needed for that project.  Last sleeve, front bands and collar still to go.

  1. Love those tips! It’s amazing the difference a little color on the tips will make in the carded fiber.

  2. Love Coopworth! What will you knit with three ounces?

  3. Oooh…coopworth! It takes dyes beautifully, has great luster and is very strong. Do you have to knit with it? If I recall correctly, it’s what Sara Swett uses in her tapestries.
If I were in the exchange, I’d do some canning jar dyeing and make up a postcard sized tapestry.

  4. Ooooh, fun! Look forward to seeing what emerges!

  5. Good for you, showing restraint by finishing up one project before you move on to the next…and that Coopworth looks so tempting!

  6. I washed mine Sunday too. Last night I carded it and got it spun up while my girlscouts were working on their Mother Bear Project.
Not sure which hat I am going to knit yet. Still thinking on that one!

  7. Aren’t the colors seriously gorgeous?
I just used a dogbrush to comb mine out the after I washed it, locks and spun them up already, the yarn came out beautiful!!

  8. Beautiful fiber!
I’m trying not to think about the fleeces I have stashed at the moment – I’d resolved to get some knitting done before I did any more spinning. But, oh, my…
Trying to resist the call of the wheel.

I love the colors in this fiber. Mine is sitting here waiting for me to spin it up. I have a couple of hats in mind and plan to send it to the charity Jean mentioned.
