A few weeks ago, Tamara wrote to tell me that the hummers were in her neck of the woods. If mine are on their way, they better be wearing parkas. Check out the migration map, they are moving up the east coast and through the middle of the country.
So get your feeders out! Get ready! The little buggers will need it after the long trip north!
The interesting thing about the migration maps, is that you can compare the progression from year to year. This year they have remained further south for the central areas and are more northerly on the eastern coast than they were this time last year. I hope the hummers know what they’re doing, because around here, I’m still wearing a coat. What are they thinking?
I wonder what happened to the little juevie that stayed so long last fall.. will he be the first to return?

I’ll have to go out every morning and chip the ice out! They are close though, so I’ll be getting them out this weekend and preparing. yay!
Man! I hit post before I read that sentence. What I meant to say was: They (meaning the hummingbirds) are close though, so I’ll be getting the feeders out this weekend and preparing. Now I can be understood.
My dad really enjoyed feeding the hummers. As for myself, if you have to be consistent with feeding them once you start, I’m a rotten maintainer!
I remember you posted a reminder last year and I was pleasantly surprised at how early I had visitors. Thanks for the timely reminder again as it certainly wasn’t on my mind just yet. I’ll mix up some sugar water and set my feeder out asap.
My little hummers don’t usually leave, though I think they took off for a few weeks this winter. I suppose I should clean out the feeder before they start getting crabby. The Bug loves to watch them and can always spot them in our giant trees.
I’d better get those flowers planted!
Thank you for the PSA! I was wondering when they might show up. Now that they know my house has FOOD, the feeders will attract them until I can get the salvias up and running again.
Thank you for this. We are getting our feeders out today!
Thanks for the heads-up! :o)
