Clapotis

Am I the only one out there who has not knitted Clapotis?  Am I?  It has been on the list, almost forever.  Last Thursday’s guild meeting bumped it to the top.  No exaggeration, there must have been six new Clapotis on display that night.  All beautiful.  I went home thinking about what yarn to use, what colors to dye, what.. what!  I pictured knitting one in a more or less monochromatic colorway.  That was before.  In the morning, I walked outside (as I do) and saw this.  The clincher.

After coffee, I went to work.

I dyed eight skeins of the Artisan 2 ply and then a second batch in the sock yarn.  Last night I finally had time to cast on.  I’m waiting to take a picture until I do the first column of dropped stitches.  That’s when I’ll know.

Meanwhile, ice is setting up on the pond.  Nippy, let me tell you.  Don’t let this picture fool you.  That lovely gold is not autumn leaves.  They are a memory.   It is the golden glow, the beautiful end of the day light, of winter.

  1. Oh no, you aren’t alone. I just bought the yarn for it at Rhinebeck though so I’ll be knitting it soon as well. I held off because I was going to dye my own but never ended up doing it. Glad to know that *I’m* not alone.

  2. Your yarn is gorgeous by the way.

I still have not knit Clapoti either. Looks like you’re going to knit up before me. I LOVE the color of the newly dyed yarn!

  4. That should make a really lovely Clapotis.

  5. I’ve knit it, but the yarn was a single ply and help up about as well as one might expect. I have a notion about doing it again.
    Yours will be lovely.

  6. Your newly dyed colorway will make a beautiful Clapotis.

  7. Oh, my, that yarn is just absolutely astounding. Are you sure you didn’t dye it for me??? This will be a stunning clappy-tee.

  8. oh, your beautiful, beautiful yarn! To have a vision and make it come true….

That yarn is sooo pretty…nice to see where you find your inspiration!

  10. The last pictures is so beautiful. Fall has left Utah, me thinks. Your yarn will make a beautiful Clapotis!

  11. Can’t wait to see your Clapotis in those beautiful colors! (I haven’t knit it yet either, but on the looonnnggg list!)

  12. That is a beautiful dye job.

  13. Beautiful yarn ! It will make a lovely clapotis, I’m sure.

  14. I bought Brooks Farm yarn at Rhinebeck to make a Clapotis. LOVE that colorway.

  15. You aren’t the last person to knit one! I cast on recently with some handdyed, handspun BFL singles and while the yarn is lovely…I’m not sure it’s the best design for 100% wool. So it’s in time out for now. Can’t wait to see yours!

  16. That’s going to be one beautiful Clap. And no, you aren’t the last one.

I haven’t made it either.. can’t wait to see your progress..that color is fabulous!

  18. Wow, you NAILED that color!!
    Happy clapping πŸ˜‰

  19. Beautiful pics and beautiful yarn. And no, I’m the last person who hasn’t made a Clapotis. But it’s getting real near the top of the list.

  20. I haven’t knitted The Clap either. The dropped stitches trouble me… they look like snag magnets. πŸ˜‰ I feel the same way about ‘real lace’, too; those single strands of yarn look so much more delicate and vulnerable than the interlocked strands that make up the eyelets in ‘rest-row’ lace.
But I really like that skein you dyed for it. πŸ™‚

  21. That is some luscious yarn. Looking forward to seeing it knit up!

  22. Those colors are stunning!!!

  23. What a beautiful dye job. Wow.

  24. Oh my God…your yarn is gorgeous beyond words. I love the colors. I would SO knit a clapotis from it…I am clapo-tis-less. Not on my needles. Not in my queu…Wasn’t even in my head until now..yours will be so pretty.

  25. I’ve never knit Clapotis.
    That yarn is beyond gorgeous!!

  26. Beautiful yarn, really.

  27. More people have not knit it than have knitted it, but if everyone had that yarn it might be the other way around!
