Yep, after a rather pushy greeting by none other than ‘Sweetie Pie’, the lady Katherine herself, and after a bottle (for SP and it was only water) we got down to work. David showed us what to do, and that’s what we did.
some of us with preconceived notions, most without.
and when the afternoon was over.. (and a shot or two of teaquila)
there were four nearly completed wheels
Just a note here, it spins like a dream. I’ve spent a lot of time, as you know, at the fairs, and I’ve heard and read discussions on it’s height, or rather the height of the orifice. Will you be hunched over while spinning.. the answer is ‘no’. I for one, tested this one in an Adirondack chair, leaning back. Another, ‘a wheel like that can’t spin fine yarn’. That’s silly. It’s the spinner not the wheel. This will spin anything you want (read that as anything you know how to spin). I say these things not to step on anyone’s feelings, but come on… really.. IT’S THE SPINNER.
When I got home there were a lot of beans waiting to be picked, blanched and readied for the freezer. These are Romano beans, my absolute favorite.

Really, really nice and extra special with your spalted wood.
Beautiful wheels…beautiful beans…perfect.
It *is* the spinner! Congratulations, nice wheel.
Are those garlic scapes in your photo? Have you read Mary Jane’s Farm, magazines or books? She’s got a recipe for pesto using garlic scapes, and it sounds too good.
It looks great!! Beans look pretty yummy too!
Fabulous, all of it! How much do those HH babies sell for?
Is Dave going to Rhinebeck? I might just have to give in and get one…after all, I don’t have a wheel yet that I can use on long car/truck trips! (Came very close to buying one at the Connecticut show, and again in Maryland, almost as close as I came to meeting YOU!!)
you are so right, it is the spinner π
I like the finish on your wheel!!!
Oh boy. I love them.
Sigh…someday…
Uh-oh. Now we won’t be virtually spinning together on our Joys and our Schachts … I have to sell the Symphony and buy a Hitchhiker…;-) Reading your blog reminds me of talking to you on the phone. π
Gorgeous!
It sounds like you’re living this ideal little life out there! Between the harvesting, the spinning, the knitting, the MAKING OF THE SPINNING WHEEL and of COURSE — Sweetie Pie — you should be in a state of bliss!
Good for you. π
