Smatterings

  • almost back

Even after years of posting, it is surprisingly hard to pick up and post after weeks away.   Not "away", I was here, but away from blogging.  You know.. Where to start.  Tomorrow is the last early morning  poinsettia delivery here.   I am SO happy.  After weeks of nonstop holiday decorating, bows, poinsettias, trees and deliveries, it’ll be good to have a normal schedule again.  My hands barely work.  I want to weight them down, pressed flat against the bedsheets while I sleep to keep them from curling into tight claws during the night.  It has impacted my knitting time.  As my reward each night, I spent time with Clapotis.  She’s finished.  I wore her last weekend, unwashed and not blocked.  It was cold enough.  Finally soaked, I hung her over a curtain rod in the furnace room to dry.

As soon as I finished with Clapotis, I measured and wound into a ball, a skein of handspun.  There were 450 yds., more than enough for Gretel and a pair of mitts.

    Gretel keeps my attention.

    1. I’ve just realised that I’ve ordered my skein winder from you! I was moved to comment on your Clapotis – its so beautiful! You’ve pushed me over the limit of my clapotis resistance. Is there any chance that I could order some of the wall street, and get it put in the box with the winder?

    2. Clap looks really good. Always interesting how the yarn is at an angle to the dropped stitches.
The handspun is pushing me to the wheel to ply. (I hear Gandalf talking to me just before he fell to the Balrog: Ply, you fool!)

    3. Your clapotis is beautiful and Gretel is going to look terrific on you.

    4. I really like your handspun married to that pattern (which has been on my to-do list since it came out). Glad you are resurfacing.

    5. Lovely handspun and your Clapotis looks so cozy and beautiful. It’s nice to see you back here.

    6. You must be so glad to be finally finished with all the hard work you did last weeks !
Can you still enjoy bows and poinsettia’s ? 😉
The clapotis is really lovely and so is Gretel. I am also very curious about how the finished Oh!Canada will look Anne is making, the yarn is so pretty !

    7. What a pretty Clapotis! And how wonderful now to get back to normal. Hope your hands get some rest now. (Knitting counts as rest, you know.)

    8. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
I know what you mean, I have to consciously unclench my hands every night.

    9. Your clap it beautiful! I just gifted mine to my daughter, which will give me an excuse to do up another one :-).
I hope your hands get some much needed rest!

    10. Good to hear from you again! Clapotis is beautiful!

    11. Lovely – the beret will look wonderful on you!

  • Zak in charge

It’s a good thing someone is keeping a watchful (sometimes sleepy) eye.  Nothing is the same around here.

    Zak’s in charge.

Just because, and so that those who really don’t want to spend the time seeing the non fiber parts, Clapotis comes first.  In "real" life, she is the last part of the day, when I collapse in my chair in front of the TV, she is my pick up and knit project for the season.  I’ve decided to add a few extra repeats to the straight section.  It was looking to be a tad short if I wanted to use it as a shawl.  The pattern calls for an overall length of 55".  I want 60 plus or more.  Anyone weigh in on this?

    1. Ahhh yes, tis the season over at your place.

    2. I think you must have my dream job… I love decorating for Christmas… my brother pays me to decorate his offices… I LOVE IT.

    3. There’s just something about cats and boxes. And what an amazing onslaught of Christmas cheer!

    4. It may get old to you, but the photos are beautiful and festive:)

    5. It’s your busy time of year! Love the idea of a long Clap.

    6. Manise

Yup, the holidys in full swing! How are those bows coming along? 😉 Lovely Clapotis! Longer clap sounds great, but are you intimating you don’t have enough yarn? That yarn ball looks smallish. Or are those the left overs?

    7. Wow I see lots and lots of work ahead. And I don’t mean Clapotis.
I think Clap’s best use is as a shawl. Let me know what you think when you are done.

    8. It seems to be a good idea to lengthen it for the shawl, esp. for your height. I’m don’t like an overloading of Christmas hotchka about, but there can be never enough live plants/flowers. I realize the bulk of yours have a deadline and will be on it’s way out. What beautiful plants!

    9. That looks like a big order ! Are you making wreaths with all the stuff in the boxes ?
Your clapotis looks very nice, I like the color and the yarn a lot. I just made one out of Noro Silk Garden, alternating between two balls which creates stripes. Totally different than yours 🙂

    10. Who better to be in charge than Zak? He looks like he takes most things in stride.
Clapotis must be a comforting project to sink your hands into after a full day.

    11. Oh Dear God. Thank goodness you’ve got some mindless knitting and Zak to help, or you’d be totally lost in that sea of Christmas decorations.

    12. And so begins the crazy season. 😉 Good luck!

    13. Your Clapotis is beautiful. I made one early in my knitting life and I wasn’t happy with my yarn choice. I’ve been thinking more and more about knitting another one. Yours has me a bit inspired to move this idea to the top of my knitting “to do” list. Very pretty.

    14. Hang in there, you’re almost finished for the season! 🙂
Hope your able to get some rest and a bit of knitting in these decorating days.
Will you be posting pics of some of your finished works?

    15. I made my Clapotis out of Malabrigo and I made it to the pattern specs and I wish it were longer…for what that’s worth.
      Zak’s so pretty!

  • flocking turkeys

Did you hear that the White House turkey was flown to Disney World after the ceremonies?  I thought that there were two turkeys this year.  They asked for two names and picked the winners, not winner, "May" and "Flower".  I searched around, as I do every year for the best shots of the occasion.  He (she, her name is "May")  looks like a winner, ready to take charge, wouldn’t you say?

Obviously, I didn’t take the pictures.. they are API or Something Herald that I copied over, apologies and thanks.  I’d love to be there, but am really busy this time of year with my own shenanigans.

Wishing You a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! Love the turkey, but what the heck is that black *button* afixed to her chest? A microphone?!

    2. I’m not sure I ever heard the white house had turkeys….do they get eaten every year??? I’m confused! Cute images though!

    3. George flies to Disney World? I did not know that.

    4. I hope your day was filled with joy and lots of good eats!

    5. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    6. How many turkeys are in this picture?… heh
