  • that was fast!

As it worked out, we got the snow blowers and chains on the tractors in the nick of time.  I hesitate to complain in the light of Buffalo's snow event.  But, when winter made up its mind, it came quickly.  Wednesday morning we had the opportunity to use both. I was happy we'd stuck with our chores.  Even the balsam brush was cut and in the barn before the snow came.  It made loading it into the truck so much easier when the time came to bring it south for the now imminent decorating season.

The pond went from open water to completely covered in 5 days.  Even though it is the right time of year, the freeze seemed faster than usual. Maybe it was that we'd had such unseasonally warm weather the week before.  No more.

With the pond tucked in for the winter, life around it has to adjust.  While I shoveled the deck, I watched a mink run across the snow covered ice and back, instead of taking the longer shoreline route.  I wonder if the shortcut makes up for his lack of cover.

Mink? Really? I had no idea. Beautiful landscape.

Lovely view of your pond even if it’s encased in snow and ice. A whole new mindset with new discoveries. I love watching mink/ sable gallumphing along in the snow. Their bodies are so long.

    3. A winter wonderland, more so because you were prepared.

  • Shades of November

    NaBloPoMo #19

November is the grey month. Only a few trees and bushes still have leaves and their color has faded to subtle. The sun is scarce and weak when it shines. The landscape is without contrast. I'm not complaining. It doesn't stay long, this changeling . It has its own beauty. I fall in love all over again.

    – Posted using BlogPress from my iPad.  For a reason I can't understand, I am unable to post a picture larger than this from my ipad with good resolution.  Any ideas?

If these pictures were taken this morning… all snow.  Fourth deck shoveling this season.

    1. Your landscape is greyer than mine. I’ll catch up soon enough.

    2. Weve switched to white. Just like that.

    3. I’m currently envious.

  • Ten on Tuesday

10 Musicians I Would Bring Back from the Dead.

    How could I resist?

The first five are easy. I'd love to hear what they'd compose in this age.
    Bach
    Beethoven
    Mozart
    Schubert
Wagner.. Imagine the Ring Cycle with today's electronics.

Billie Holiday ..for moody jazzy blues, she's it
Louis Armstrong .. more jazz, thick and raspy.
Ella Fitzgerald ..no one can scat like Ella
Duke Ellington ..his version of the Nutcracker Suite is my favorite choice for Christmas music

    Janis Joplin ..timeless
Jim Morrison .. I love him on a late Saturday night
    Stevie Ray Vaughan ..

Okay, it must be our era. Many of the same choices!

    3. iris Westcott

      Chopin, and the Gerswhins.

    4. iris Westcott

Gershwins, of course, Ira and George, mostly George.

    5. I debated Stevie Ray Vaughn – Little Sister makes me think of my big brother.

    6. Hard to narrow down.
      Judy

    7. Manise

Chopin and Dvorak. Duane Allman, Freddy Mercury, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong.

    8. Such a great list.

    9. I’d substitute Freddy Mercury for Schubert, but otherwise I’d let you be in charge of the music for a cross-country roadtrip. 8)
