more little bits.. a contest!

I can't be certain what this fiber is exactly.  Silk, certainly.  Merino, probably and possibly alpaca.  I'm not even sure when I bought it.  If I had lots of time, I don't, I'd go back in my posts to see if I referenced it.  It is sure to be there somewhere.  Maybe later.  I've been playing with those little bits of fiber that are samples or leftovers.  I'm trying slightly different techniques, and spinning on spindles that I've been ignoring awhile.  I decided to carry this little Bosworth in my bag and spin whenever I had a few moments.  For example, stopped dead on the highway waiting for traffic to clear.  Or, waiting for my order at the Mexican restaurant.  Or how about while going over the day with an employee.   I think I've gotten quite a bit done in that found time.  10 minutes, remember??

Here's the deal..let's make it a contest.  I don't have any idea how much yarn is on the spindle.  It was spun and plied on the spindle you see.  Leave me a comment telling me how many yards you think are on the spindle.  There will be a prize for the person who guesses correctly.  I'm thinking a sock kit.  Comments will close Saturday night.  If more than one person guess correctly, I'll put your names in a hat and C can draw a winner.  The winner will be announced Monday morning.

76 yards is my guess. Cute Bosworth spindle!

  2. 65 yards. Thanks for the fun!

  3. I’ll go with 47, because it’s one of my favorite numbers. Regardless, it looks fabulous! Also, it’s been a while since I visited outside of googlereader, and I love the spindle header image. Those are beautiful!

  4. I’d say 100 yards. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. 134, I don’t know why.

  6. My guess is 145 yards. This yarn is appealing to me and the spindle is really dear. It must be lovely to have so many for you to try out.

  7. Linda M

170 yards but I’m probably too high. It is lovely.

  8. Katie K

I have no idea, so I’ll guess 88.

  9. Gertieanne

    I say maybe 75 yards?

  10. 123 yards. What’s the woven fabric underneath?

  11. Oh, I’ll play! 119 yds

  12. My guess is 56 yards. I’m probably a little low. Love the spindle! One of these days I would like to get a Bosworth.

  13. Enjoy reading your blog! I’m guessing 82. Thanks for asking!

I’m going to guess 86 yards. I haven’t plied with a spindle in a long time. I like to spin on a spindle and ply on my wheel. That’s what works best for me!

  15. Tammy

    92 – and very pretty! T

  16. I’m going to guess 175. That’s one full spindle!
I have a contest at my blog, too! (It’s at http://evergreenknits.blogspot.com/2008/11/woodland-collar-and-contest.html) It’s kind of fun to see who comes out of the woodwork for them …

  17. 120 is my guess!

  18. Gail

    I guess I will say 73 yards.

  19. I’d have to guess 78 yards – just because that’s the first number that jumped into my head when I saw the spindle.
    Very even spinning, BTW.
    (visiting from ministrone soup)

  20. I’ll guess 99 yards! It’s amazing how much you did in just a few minutes here and there!

  21. 110 yards. Thanks for letting us guess.

  24. 147yds. Lovely!

  25. Beth

Out of the woodwork, that’s me
    I guess 212 yds.
Whatever the yardage, it is pretty yarn.

  26. 91, because I once got 182 yards of 2-ply on a similar spindle. Win or lose, it will be interesting to hear how many yards you have there!

  27. I’m going to guess 163. It looks very finely spun and I have no idea the size of the spindle;–)

  28. 84 The sweater looks really cozy!

  29. Mindy

    I am guessing 123.

  30. My guess is 85
