this + this = that
If all goes as planned, I may have some time to spin this weekend.
We'll see. In preparation, I carded up a pound of the Shetland blend
I'm working on. I'm thinking about two pounds equals a sweater. hmmmm…
The paths are snow covered. After a new snow fall, the walking is easy. The snow crunches gives my boots footing. Other days, it is icy and I can only walk a short distance without slipping. I go where I can, there is so much to explore. This is the coldest part of the year. All of the ponds and lakes are frozen now, and snow covered. Only the fastest streams are still open. And, those that are, wear lace.

I see so many pictures.
Found gifts. I can't choose and take as many as I can before my fingers go numb with cold.
I'm reminded how beautiful winter is, and why I love it.
You take the most gorgeous pictures!
Excellent pictures, Judy. You really captured the texture and patterns.
Your winter pictures of snow and ice bring out the artwork of nature. Very interesting and arresting.
Your images are lovely…and your imagination too.. . I see so many wings!
looks like it was a very good day to walk 😉
Great photos! The ice doesn’t even look real.
Those are beautiful! I hear you on the frozen fingers!
Gorgeous photos! I can almost smell the clean water — and I can also feel the near-frostbitten fingers!
Wonderful to see your winter.
Mine hasn’t been as gorgeous, but we did see our resident bald eagle the other day.
Your love for life reflects in these tiny moments that you share with us, to see the beauty that surrounds you and allow us to wonder along with you.
So pretty .. the cool air is flowing deep into my lungs, as I take a nice deep breath in awe of the beauty! Thanks for sharing the moment with us!
All this cold windy weather has been a great excuse for hanging around my studio and working on some new projects. Somehow, when the weather is warm and lovely, I have a hard time staying indoors. I start feeling guilty about not accomplishing one thing or another. Not in this weather. Maybe that is one of the reasons I love winter. Friday afternoon, knowing that the spinning guild meeting was Saturday afternoon, and that I was going to get to Slater Mill early to hear a lecture by Laurie Carlson in the morning, I decided to prepare the fiber I would want to spin. A quick note here.. Laurie Carlson is a fiber artist / weaver/ designer working with fiber optics and space age materials. If you're curious and want to read a bit about some of the work she does, check out this article. I'm fascinated. I think we both were at MIT's Media Lab around the same time. Wish I'd run into her way back then. So interesting.
Getting back to my more traditional materials.. shetland wool and a carder.
I'm carding approximately 1/3 dyed shetland with 2/3 natural (in this case a lovely soft almost taupe fleece).
After a bit of carding, I spindle sampled some and decided on a 3 ply worsted weight yarn as my finished product. I'm spinning it accordingly. I have plenty to card.
It was pretty close to a perfect weekend.
Those carded batts are scrumptious! Can’t wait to see your 3-ply!
Beautiful!
Gorgeous!!!! I didn’t even know we *had* a spinning guild around here!
Nice blend- the natural with the dyed looks terrific, and the guild meeting/ lecture sounds like it was great! Glad to hear you are busy with spinning..
I cant wait to see more of that fiber as a three ply!! It is just gorgeous.
Very pretty batts. I love that color.
I love the look of carded batts, Very pretty. Spending much time with your cherry Matchless?
Just beautiful! I love greens/blues almost as much as I love purples/blues…
Can’t wait to see the finished yarn.
And I echo AnnaMarie – we have a spinning guild up here?
I love that color and can’t wait to see not only the finished yarn but a garment knit with it!
I never ask for much, do I?
