Smatterings

  • the other season begins

I've fled the hills and headed south.  Just in time.  This morning is the start of Deer Season.  We've been through Bow Season, Moose Season, Bear Season, and Black Powder.  But this is the BIG season.  All of the hunters, all of the crazy, partying, drinkin' fools will be out in the woods this weekend and I am out of the hills.  Happy coincidence.  It is the weekend of the biannual NHA Gathering!

Seems that Ravelry can't pick up my blog for their screen shot in the amount of time allotted by the automated info gathering program thingy.  It was suggested that my banner file size was too big.  It wasn't very, but I've decreased the resolution and halved the file size.  Still nothing but a blank screen with a little dog or maybe a mouse(?) in the center of the screen shot.  Anyone have any ideas?

Did you know that Safari (the default Apple browser) can’t fully read typepad blogs? I have to go to Firefox to read them. Maybe its a typepad problem.

    2. Enjoy the gathering!

    3. I’m not sure what you mean, but is it the screen shot that shows up on your about page? I see it just fine on IE there. If it is something else, I haven’t the faintest, but I’ll look somewhere else if you need me to.

    4. I’d run from the hills too. Glad to see you catching a breath at the Gathering.

    5. I don’t have any ideas, but what is Black Powder season?
We’ll have to start wearing orange soon.

    6. This may already have happened to you, but the little mousie has been fixed. However, I’ve seen a dozen mousie Ravatars pop up on the site now–he was apparently a popular little fella! 🙂

  • Friday

Back out again from under the snow, the colors that remain seem even brighter than before.  Perhaps it is due to the effects of the "poor man's fertilizer", snow.  These little wild strawberry leaves bear the theory out.  Tiny jewel like leaves popp against the dark wet stone.

Work on the Rhinebeck Cardi continues.  Spin as I go.  First sleeve on the needles.

    Too Hoot!

I prefer those colors to snow! No progress shots on the sweater?

  • the moebius.. as an expression

On November 3rd, the day before election day here in the states, Cat Bordhi wrote the following regarding the moebius:

..here is why the Moebius is a perfect expression of the best of humanity, and the
healing of the fractured country and world that I trust is coming:

    1. The Moebius *appears* to have two surfaces and two edges – ie, polarities such as
black and white, right and wrong, good and bad, Republican and Democrat – but when
you follow the surface around you will run right into your starting point without ever
having changed to the other "side." For there isn't one. Everything flows into itself.
Polarities are an illusion. What lies beneath the apparent polarities is oneness, beauty,
and grace. In a Moebius you can see it, hold it, be awed by it. Once the frenzy dies
down, hopefully those with opposing views will slowly rediscover their common
    humanity.

You can read her letter here as well as get the link to the cast on tutorial.  Election day has passed, but let's not forget.  We must participate if we want our country to reflect ourselves.  This time around, stay informed.  Voice your beliefs.

Oh, and election day was on Nov 4th, not the third 🙂

    3. Interesting concept! Almost like knitting a yin yang ….

    4. That’s lovely. I’ve been thinking the same thing about participation, and matching my actions to my words.
