    walk with us??

    P1040077_2

Can it be that on these late summer days, that I am really too busy, too tired and maybe even too cranky to join them?  Yep.  Seems that way.  Time for a break.  It is a busy time of year, no doubt about it.  And just about everything that needs to be done requires standing, mostly in one place.

This morning I found myself with more wet skeins than I could dry easily.  The late summer sun is lower in the sky these days.  It stays behind the trees, shading the back yard and my clothes lines until afternoon.  The grass stays dew wet until late in the day. It makes it  hard to dry clothes or yarn.  C made me an alternative line this morning.  I can move it with the sun.  Clever guy.

It was filled quickly and another spot found.  Look who’s at the water’s edge.

    Other stuff is drying…

There is a definite change in the air, you can feel it.  And, see it.

    1. Looks like a lovely way to spend the day! I’m really looking forward to the autumn, too.

    2. From what I hear the colors are starting to peak through in the higher elevations. I plan on checking it out for myself this weekend. It’s a good idea to take a break now and then to walk around your beautiful place!

    3. I do love that kitty photo. They look like they’re on a mission. I miss you and we need to get together soon.

    4. Is that a heron? Lucky you! 🙂
Bring on the autumn–I personally cannot wait. 😉

    5. The kitty on the right looks like a raccoon to me, just ambling away. Funny.
Boy, it is NOT feeling like fall today here in St. Louis. Blistering hot and dry, dry, dry. Oh, it’ll be cool, even cold soon enough, but gah. The heat. Yuck.

    6. Pretty! Thanks for the mental break.

    7. How could anyone resist a walk with those two companions? Besides, cats are always right.
      Nice clothesline!

    8. Your cats are right, take a break !
And enjoy the summer while you still can, I know easier said than done !

    9. Manise

Glad you left the confines of the dye pots in the shed and joined the cats for some fresh air. The air has changed- drier and crisper. I welcome it in part, but also mourn the ending of summer and the decreasing light.

    10. Far easier said than done lately, I agree. Your new clothesline/yarndryingline is very clever.
Change is definitely in the air for us. The leaves are turning already and nights are getting quite chilly.

    11. I love your drying method. I hand my skeins up on our abandoned birdfeeder hooks. They get a full day of sun.
Enjoy the summer before it’s gone!

    12. Nice solution to the changing sun! Guess the cats know what they’re doing!

    13. Lee-Fay

Your place looks so beautiful – yarn and scenery in the one place. *sigh* Here in the southern hemisphere, there is a change in the air too, in the opposite direction. The seasons are really lovely to experience.

    14. There is a change in the air. The nights are cool here now, not something in the 20s celcius. My fleece isn’t necessarily drying in one day either….

    15. I”m loving the change. I like seeing the preview in your neck of the woods

Want a coupon?  Click here and print it out.   Vermont’s Sheep and Wool Festival is two weeks away and I am dyeing like a fiend.  Last week, just before the family arrived, as in hours before, I signed up Ball and Skein for a booth.   We’ll be in the State Building.  It’s been too cold for the tomatoes to ripen.  Without a counter full of tomatoes to put up, there is a hole in my schedule.  The flip side is that all that cool weather is perfect for dyeing.  Yarn for tomatoes.

It was a great week with my family.  The first day of their visit, we went to the Orleans County Fair.  It was the same day as the Demolition Derby; there was something for everyone.  By the end of the day, I’d bought a fleece.  It was sopping wet from all the rain and as I found out later, full of burdock.  It has been well skirted and now waits for a bath.  Sooner than later would be good, but…. I am way too busy.  It was one of four fleeces that I acquired that week.  The other three were alpaca, two white, and one a gorgeous grey.   Knitting didn’t happen.  I managed to kitchener the toe of one sock.  That’s it.

Funny how the quiet settles in immediately.  Must be a state of mind. The car had no sooner rounded the bend in the drive, when the week disappeared and what remained was silence, thick and heavy.

    1. Alpacaholic II? I thought it was just me.

    2. Manise

Even more silent now that so many of the birds have hauled themselves off for points south. Glad your week was fun.
Wish I was going to the VT S&W, but I’ve got previous commitments. Hope they pick your booth clean!

    3. You know what they say about silence! I wouldn’t know, but I’ve heard about it 😉 Good luck at the festival! Sure wish I could go…

    4. Four fleeces in one week! That’s impressive. 🙂
I wish I were going to VT… maybe next year?

    5. I hope Vermont S&W is good this year! I was hoping to make it up there, but I don’t think I will. I suppose I can’t hit them all though, no matter how much I’d like too!

    6. I MAY be able to make it – hope to see you – will be sure to stop in for a hug if it all comes together…..

  • walk with me wednesday

    Guest Author: Grace

Today’s Walk with Me Wednesday was walked and photographed by my 11 yr. old niece.  She’s visiting this week and has made more than one trip down to the mailbox for me.

Aunt Judy got this fleece at

the fair last Sunday. The sheep’s name was Louisa.
(Thought you might be interested in knowing that Louisa is from the same farm that Bess came from.  Another Romney / Border Leicester cross, her fleece is thankfully , much smaller. In keeping with the rest of the flock, the sheep are named for President’s wives.)

Two years ago Judy and I got the face and put it up when no one else was around to see if anyone would notice it or get scared.
    (took days..)

This rock reminded me of Judy’s special rock.
(Rock love runs in this family.. luckily.)

When I saw this picture, I thought of how beautiful Vermont’s mountains are.

(what can I say to that?

    Hpim0699

This cloud reminds me of my best friend, an elephant, which is her favorite animal.

This is one of Judy’s "famous" stacks of rocks.

It is always fun to see my landscape through new eyes.

    1. Excellent job, Grace. Have fun with Aunt Judy.

    2. Nice walk and photos Grace! I really like the things that you noticed on your walk! (apparently, rock love is not the only thing that runs in the family-)
oh, and what a nice fleece you brought home from the fair!

    3. Well done, Grace! Lovely photos, you are an excellent photographer. I really enjoyed our “walk.”

    4. Manise

Super job Grace! Glad the weather cleared up for your visit. Did you help Aunt Judy skirt and wash the fleece too?

    5. Thanks for a really nice walk Grace! You did a awesome job 🙂

    6. The tree-face is adorable. It’s like you have your own personal Ent to shepherd your trees around. 😉
I like her photo of the big rock… and of course the great big fleece spread out to dry! It looks fluffy and wonderful. 🙂

    7. How nice to have such a niece, and for Grace to haven an aunt like Judy.
I can see the elephant in the cloud too and I love the tree face !

    8. Neat dual post. Great tour!

    9. Grace……I see you are an observant writer and photographer like you aunt. Will you be a lover of fiber as well?
