  • when there is only one

So what do you do when you have only one skein left in a colorway??  Thanks to Susan, this..

the Branching Out Scarf.  It is wonderful, simple lace pattern.  I had one, only one, 180 yd. skein,  of my Election Day Blues.  Just enough, I think.  The pattern calls for 190.  So maybe mine will have to be a repeat short, what the heck.

The weather was perfect all weekend.  At the risk of being totally boring, and not just a little bit redundant,  I dyed!!  Two more colors!  I love doing this stuff.  Playing with color and fiber and dreaming the whole time about what it could become, not to mention thinking ahead to another colorway that just MIGHT be the next one or the next.   Then, I also have the pleasure on really beautiful days of seeing them hang, blowing in the breeze from the clothesline.  A fibery landscape, strange laundry, some sort of art.. pretty freakin’ nice way to spend the weekend.   Saturday, I cut my stay at the spinning guild meeting short arriving late and leaving early to walk to a nearby art supply to buy a couple of jars of dye.   Just a couple colors to make it easier to accent some ideas I have.

Sunday, completely aware that Hummingbirds are pushy and demanding and will ALWAYS let you know that they have arrived by going from window to window until they find you and all the while che che che – ing as loudly as they possible can,  I put out my first feeder.  It IS way too early,  by a week or two certainly.  But WHAT IF one very fast little bird gets here before the rest, exhausted and hungry.  I wouldn’t want that on my conscience.  I’m ready.

    1. Oooh, that is a gorgeous colorway! I’m already planning to knit that scarf myself, with some baby cashmere from Elann. Mmmm, luxe!

    2. I was just thinking about the hummingbirds this morning. They always arrive here the day before Mother’s Day — how they know that date is beyond me, hee! But as you say, what if one gets here early, and my feeders last year I decided to “retire,” so I need to get to a store and buy new ones…So that will be on my list ASAP.

  • just can’t stop..

I like my new dyeing set up so much I’ve been playing with it everyday.  Up until now I’ve had to use the kitchen in the winter, moving outdoors weather and wind, especially, permitting.  Last weekend I finally just moved my stuff into the basement plant room.  It’ll have to leave when we have to put together a job, but hey, it’s portable.
    Here’s yesterday’s addition.. Lily Pond.

It reminds me of the summer
days I spend floating on the raft amongst the  bright yellow pond
lilies.  They were so thick last year that C waged war on them , mowing
them with an underwater thingy that looked a lot like a hedge trimmer
on a long stick, as he paddled around the pond in the canoe.  Hard to
    imagine, huh?

The new Knitty is out.  If you haven’t seen it yet, there is a great little lace scarf pattern.  I think it could very easily be worked into a shawl.  I’m planning on trying it out as a scarf.  If I enjoy knitting it, who knows..  It would make a terrific gift.

  • Type phooey

Before I write anything else.. Hummingbirds have been sighted in North Jersey and the southern most tip of New York!!

I did it again.  Maybe it’s a Typepad relationship thing.. I type and type and then I marked it as "Draft’ and saved because I really wanted to get a picture ready and then in my need to close some windows ( of the computer sort) that are open from using Bloglines, I closed my posting, BUT it should NOT have mattered, I HAD saved it… but apparently not!   Whatever I wrote, wasn’t nearly important enough for me to remember it all, so now I’m left with my thoughts (what lttle there are of them, and that would most certainly current thoughts only).  I know I mentioned that I have a raging sinus / going to migraine headache that woke me up this morning.  I’m blaming this on deciding that I’d better start raking out some garden areas yesterday.  As I’ved gotten older, my allergies have really come out.  I never had them as a child.  Seems like molds, dust ( as in house cleaning), all the mosses blooming in the yard, and the yet to come big one.. OAK POLLEN.. make me absolutely miserable.   I’ve used every homeopathic I have in the house this morning and it’s still hardly making a dent.

It was beautiful yesterday, nice enough that Cindy came by to have lunch and knit a while on my deck.  I had yarn hanging out to dry on the line and it felt like a real fibery kind of day.  The day was so beautiful that we went on a woods walk.

    0506051_1  ‘my’ rock

The skunk cabbage are really showing now, the burgundy caps peaking out at the soggy edges of the streams we passed.   Late in the afternoon I planted pansies in a few pots that I see from my windows.  The only noteable thing blooming in my yard is Andromeda.

Thanks to everyone that contacted me regarding my yarns for sale.  I am updating the page as skeins are sold and will keep adding to it as I get the information ready and make new stuff.  I’m putting some stuff in the mail today and Betsy, your yarn was dyed this morning,   It’s in the pot cooling off now.  My email has been fickle lately.  I’d been getting junk all of a sudden so created what I thought was a good filter.  It wasn’t letting much of anything through and after a while was sending everything that did arrive to trash.  If you haven’t heard back from me, that’s my excuse.  Please try again.  I’ve searched junk but am pretty sure I’ve lost stuff.   I found these great pics that Cindy sent me in the trash this morning.

Typepad is locked up again.  What’s going on this morning ??  It’s so slow that I’ll wait to post the pics until later.

    1. I had trouble leaving comments but it seems to be fixed…guess I’ll find out if this posts the first time. Can’t wait to get my yarn (or see my first humming bird).

    2. ok I AM EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    3. I loves me a good boulder. But I have to say, I can’t stop looking at yours and seeing a giant clamshell, and that leads to thoughts of things like the man-eating plant in The Little Shop of Horrors. *CAREFUL!!!*
      😉

    4. Great rock, and its also great to see a picure of you!
