more signs of the season
Yesterday was the first day that conditions, ie. snow melt, flooding, mud, and the onslaught brought by General Winter himself, permitted me to begin walking my 3 mile woods trail. It was like taking a walk with a dear friend. I know the rocks, the trees, the sounds and smells that are in this section of the woods. I should, I’ve walked there for more than a dozen years, way more. While we (bloggers) are still listing the wonderful signs of spring, here are a few more that I gathered yesterday:
- the Vernal Pools were full
- ‘water walker’ bugs ( anyone know their real name??)
- purple capped skunk cabbage
- the PEEPERS !! (click to hear them)
- the snow pile at the end of my driveway is LESS THAN A FOOT HIGH!!!
(a footnote here… this is southern New England.. my farm is STILL snow covered, the Hummingbirds, don’t forget them, arrive every year before the snow melts out along my drive and in very shady areas of the woods).
Knitting was sparse, the heel of a sock turned, a bit more on the gold beaded shawl. I tied up a bit more yarn to dye this morning. And it looks like it may just be warm enough to sit on the deck and spin a while.

Mm, I hadn’t thought about it yet, but you’re making me want to take my woodsy walk! Great idea.

I bet you saw water striders, aka gerris remigis:

Finally.. Yarn For Sale
Here are the newest skeins I dyed over the weekend. All in a slightly heavier than lace weight, merino / silk.
Atlantic
Peony
One of the hardest colors to get right, at least on the monitor I’m using, are the reds. This color has absolutely no orange to it at all, even after my very poor attempts at running it through Photoshop corrections, it still looks like it has a bit of orange. Really, the colors are more subdued.. take my word for it.
As of this post, I now have a new section on the side bar… Yarn for Sale. This yarn is there, along with a number of other hand dyed and handspun yarns I’ve been busy making over the past few months. If you see something you like, email me.

LOVE the peony (and tht fact that there is no orange). Would this make a great FBS? I need to make one for my sister and I’m thinking of your blue/green mix…was it Ocean? Let me know how to pay you etc.

Beautiful yarns, inspiring colors. Maple and Beech look so *warm* right now!

I’m freaking over here. They all look positively luscious and I WANT THEM ALL. But alas, I can’t right now. Hopefully they’ll still be here when I can.

Oh goodie – more stuff to drool over. I particularly like how the reds turned out – they sure are purdy – even if there is a bit of orange in there. You sure have been a busy spinner this weekend.
C doing okay?
