Autumn against a grey rainy day.. what a beautiful relief to the kaleidoscope of color that comes with a New England fall. The colors seem richer, a palette of tweeds vs. the bright primaries of a sunny autumn day. Yesterday began that way. The mist and rain set off the golds of the tamarac. The russet of end of season oaks and coppery beeches dotted the hills. 'Like lollipops', Chris said. By late in the afternoon, the temperature was falling and the wind had picked up. This morning we woke to a monochromatic world. What a difference, I went looking for color.
The pictures were taken about 7 hours ago. Seven snowing hours. It doesn't look like it plans on letting up soon. I'm looking forward to a warm up the end of the week. The weather caught me of guard. I have porch furniture, and planters and the dock to put away. I hope this isn't a sign that winter will be a copy of last year.

Ack! It’s too damn early for that stuff!! Beautiful, yet sooo cold looking. I am not ready at all. Have this week to complete all of those putting-the-garden-to-bed tasks.
Its pretty but I have just one word. Ugh.
It looks so cold! We’re still in the 70s and loving it. While the first snow is so beautiful it sure gets old come January.
More winter means more knitting time. More spinning time. More fiber time!
Yes, I’m a winter geek *lol*
Beautiful post…I’m glad you went looking for the color.
Not fair to have it taken away all at once like that…I wasn’t ready either.
It looks so pretty but acts so cold. I love snow in December, accept it in January, wish it away in February, and absolutely loath it come March. That year we got it all the way into May? Yikes!
oh no – I am so not ready for that. I live in RI and realistically that could start happening next month. We live on the water so we are usually the last ones in the state to see snow.
Enjoy the indoor time – more time to knit and spin I always say!
Beautiful pictures!
This just seems awfully early for snow.
Each year, I forget how beautiful a freshly snowed-in world can be. :o)
Wow. You know, if you guys have snow this early, maybe we’ll get some this year! *fingers crossed*
I’m sorry your fall color has ended so soon, though. Maybe it’s temporary!
We ahd some late night flurries but luckily it didn’t stick. I’m just not ready for snow yet! How’s your foot feeling?
I guess you GOT SNOW…………….
Pretty! Somehow, it feels weird to be seeing the pictures on November 1. I’d expect such pics to start showing up at the end of the month. I wonder if this means we’re going to have an early winter this year?
