The past couple evenings, Dave Paul has been coming by to hash out the details on this little number. That's my kind of fun. It's a project that's been on the back burner, so to speak, for a while. One of the first people I phoned after my return from SOAR, was Dave. "It's time, I said, the HitchHiker needs a sister; a tricked out, double treadle, big sister." Here she is.
This little addition is a real double treadle. There isn't that dead spot, or high spot that you find on a single treadle. Tricked out, with all three bobbins (in this case, one half loaded with yarn) it weighed about 9 lbs. That's only as accurate as my bathroom scale but you get the general idea. The footprint when ready to carry is the same as the original HitchHiker, which was, by the way, designed around airline restrictions for carry on luggage. What you see is the prototype. It IS in the works. Production isn't far off. One of the best things about this design… hmmm… if you already have a HitchHiker, it can be retrofit for the extra treadle. Sweet!

That is so totally cool. Plus, PERFECT name. ๐ Thanks for giving us a preview!
Oh my GOSH. I think the scales finally tipped in the Hitchhiker’s favor for me. I have been thinking about it ever since seeing that it had different ratios, but this…is perfect. I think I need one ASAP.
Any idea about when they’ll go to production?? I’m gonna start saving now!!
How cool!
I really like the double treadle. I’ll have to look into that when they are available. Thanks!
This is great! I am a double treadle girl, which is why the Hitchhiker wasn’t on my radar. But this is certainly making me think of a travel wheel.
That’s so cute!
Me, me, me, me. I want to fit mine into a double treadle. I’m just not coordinated enough to use the single well enough. Tell Dave, YEAH!!!!!
That is pretty neat. I think you should paint feet on the treadles, like the old Hang Ten or Keep Truckin’ On logos.
Pretty cute! What a great name for the successor to the Hitcher.
that is way cool! I may have to look into this… thanks for sharing!
nodding my head in agreement with all the above comments! Nice work from the Merlin Tree!
That is so awesome!! One of the main things keeping me from owning one of Dave’s wheels is the lack of a 2nd treadle. I’m so happy he’s working on adding one! ;o)
